Lemon Swirl

 
So bright, crisp, and refreshing to look at as well as to taste, lemon is a gastronomic staple. Perhaps it’s greatest value is in enhancing other flavors with tartness for contrast. I can’t even imagine a glass of sweet iced tea or a platter of rich fried fish without lemon for balance!

It took me a couple of tries before I worked out this simple composition with three lemon slices that pleasingly fills the canvas and has movement. My favorite touches are the purpley grays I worked into the shadows, yellow’s complement.
